About OSADHI
OSADHI - Online Structural and Analytics based Database for Herbs of India is one of the largest manually curated databases which have been constructed with the concept of "4Ds - Documentation, Digitization, Deposition and Data Science". The information in this database has been collected from books, published articles other existing open sources/repository.
OSADHI consists of four major features -
(a) Traditional Knowledge - Information on vernacular names, plants parts used, therapeutic use and taxonomy.
(b) Geographical Classification - Distribution of medicinal plants available across the Indian states and Union Territories.
(c) Phytochemicals - Details of the phytochemicals available in the medicinal plants like SMILES, InChIKey, IUPAC, 2D & 3D Structures.
(d) Chemoinformatics analysis - Information on physiochemical properties, ADMET, classification etc.
The current version of OSADHI has identified 21,238 medicinal plants available all over India out of which 6959 are unique. For these unique plants, 27,440 phytochemicals and 2,477 therapeutic uses have been captured along with the geographical locations. Along with vernacular names, 343 plant families have been reported in this database.
Detailed analysis for the 22,314 phytochemicals have been provided in this database which includes two-dimensional (2D) chemical structures their physicochemical properties, drug-likeness based on multiple scoring schemes, and predicted Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion and Toxicity (ADMET) properties. Classification of the medicinal plants based on most frequent therapeutic uses has been done with help of machine learning models developed indigenously. The phytochemicals have also been classified based on - classes, super classes and pathways using NP Classifier.
In a nutshell, OSADHI is a database that compiles the results of our ongoing work to digitise the enormous information contained in traditional Indian medicine. It is one of the most comprehensive databases available on the phytochemicals of Indian medicinal plants. OSADHI provides an integrated platform for using chemoinformatic methods to hasten the development of drugs based on natural products. Furthermore, OSADHI is anticipated to enable the application of systems-level techniques in the future in order to elucidate the molecular connections between the phytochemicals in Indian medicinal plants and their therapeutic effects.
