Ouret lanata (L.) Kuntze
It is commonly known as Bhui and belongs to the family Amaranthaceae. Leaves are consumed as vegetable. Flavonoid Myricetin, Rutin, Narcissin and Phytosterol β-sitosterol are some of the reported phytochemicals from this plant. Ethanolic extract enhanced cell-mediated anti-tumor response by restoring IL-2 and IFN-γ production and increased the NK cell and T-lymphocyte activity in tumur induced mice. Mode of Consumption : Fried and cooked |

Ethyl acetate extract of whole plant | Anti-inflammatory | Treatment with ethyl acetate extract lowered the inflammatory modulator TNF-α level and IgE antibodies. It reduced IL-4, IL-5, IL-13 and enhanced expression levels of Aquaporin 1 (AQP1) and Aquaporin 5 (AQP5) in asthmatic mice. | TNF-α, IgE, IL-4, IL-5, IL-13, AQP1, and AQP5[2] |
Ethanolic extract | Immunomodulatory | Ethanolic extract enhanced cell-mediated anti-tumor response by restoring IL-2 and IFN-γ production and increased the NK cell and T-lymphocyte activity in tumur bearing mice. | IL-2 and IFN-γ[3] |
10-methoxycanthin-6-one | Immunomodulatory | Treatment with 10-methoxycanthin-6-one, significantly reduce the mRNA levels of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), and interleukins (IL-1β & IL-6) in LPS-stimulated macrophage. | iNOS, COX-2, TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6[4] |
Ethanolic extract | Anticancer | Ethanolic extract reduced the production of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and GM-CSF by B16F-10 melanoma cells in culture. | TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-6[5] |
