Maranta arundinacea L.

It is commonly known as Tikkor and belongs to the Marantaceae family. Rhizome is consumed as vegetable. β-carotene, Niacin, Riboflavin and Ascorbic acid are the bioactive compounds found in it. Tuber extract diet increased the serum IgG, IgA and IgM levels in mice in vivo. Additionally, tuber extract stimulated IgM production by HB4C5 cells and immunoglobulin (IgG, IgA and IgM) production by splenocytes in vitro; also enhanced IFN-γ production by splenocytes.
