Eruca vesicaria (L.) Cav.
It is commonly known as Tara Mira and belongs to the Brassicaceae family. It is a leafy vegetable. (E)-b-damascone, Erucin, Hexahydrofarsylacetone, α-longipinene and β-elemene are the bioactive compounds witnessed in it. There was a restoration of interleukin 10 expression in NSC-34 cells in response to pre‑treatment with seed extract. Moreover, seed extract also induced anti‑inflammatory and neuroprotective effects in NSC-34 motor neurons by inhibiting COX2, TLR4, NLRP3 inflammasome complement signalling pathways. Mode of Consumption : Salad, cooked |

4-methylthiobutylisothiocyanate | Anti-inflammatory | 4-methylthiobutylisothiocyanate (MTBI) isolated from seed extract downregulated the elevated levels of TNF-α and IL-12/23p40 in LPS-activated monocytes. | TNF-α and IL-12/23p40[1] |
Aqueous extract | Antiplatelet, Antithrombotic | Aqueous extract inhibited human platelet thromboxane B2, TGF-1β, IL-1β, CCL5 levels and also inhibited NF-κB induced by Adenosine Diphosphate (ADP). | B2, TGF-1β, IL-1β, CCL5, NF-κB, and ADP[2] |
Seed extract | Antioxidant, Anticancer | Seed extract reduced NF-κB, COX-2 and Bcl-2 gene expression levels and lipid peroxidation in rat mammary gland carcinogenesis induced by 7,12 dimethylbenz(α)anthracene (DMBA). | NF-κB, COX-2, and Bcl-2[4] |
