Cordia dichotoma G.Forst.

Lasura is fruit vegetable belonging to the family Boraginaceae. They are rich source of flavonoids, phenolic acids and diterpenes. They have excellent antioxidant activity and inhibit lipid peroxidation and enhance the superoxide dismutase, catalase and glutathione levels. They exhibit anti-tumor activity by arresting cell cycle progression in tumor cells and promote apoptosis.

Compound/Extract Activity Mode of Action Marker/References
Fruit and seed pulpAntioxidantThe fruit and seed pulp decreases antioxidant parameters of liver homogenate like GSH, GR, GST, GPx, SOD, and CAT, coupled with a significant increase in the lipid peroxidation marker MDA.MDA, GSH, GR, GST, GPx, SOD, and CAT[1]
Fruit powder extractAnti-tumorFruit powder extract helps in cell cycle arrest, inhibition of kinase activity and promote apoptosis. It further inhibits secretion of matrix metalloproteinases and suppression of tumor invasion processes suppressing topoisomerase enzyme activity that implicated in DNA replication and promotes apoptosis and expression of the p53 gene.Kinase activity, p53 gene, topoisomerase enzyme and metalloproteinases[2]
Fruit powder extractAnti-tumorThe fruit powder extract significantly reduced the number of viable Ehrlich cells and the weight of the tumor tissue and increases the number of non-viable cells.Caspase-3 and ROS[2]
