Benincasa hispida (Thunb.) Cogn.
It is commonly known as Petha. It belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae and is loaded with ample amount of phenols, alkaloids, glycosides, tannins, saponins, terpenoids, flavonoid C– glycosides, sterols, etc. that impart a lot of health benefits. The notable bioactive markers are Quercetin and Rutin. B. hispida extract has suppressive effects on allergic inflammation. Furthermore, the B. hispida extract significantly reduced the TNF-α and IL-4 levels in the Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL) when challenged with antigen and provided notable ameliorative benefits for allergic symptoms which indicates that B. hispida extract is efficacious against allergic inflammation.
