Prunus armeniaca

Apricot, is a fruit that is mostly cultivated in the northern regions of India and is known to have originated from Central Asia and besides, it is cultivated in countries like China. It is round shaped, beautiful yellow colour and turns slightly orange when ripe, has a seed in the centre and tastes sweet. It is known by various names in India, commonly known as Khubani or Apricot. This fruit is reported to consist many metabolites and due to which it is observed to exhibit some health modulating activities such as antioxidative activity, anti-inflammatory activity and so on. Amygdalin is a metabolite reported to be found in the fruit, which is seen to inhibit TNF alpha and IL-beta and suppress the mRNA expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines. During DPPH analysis of the fruit extract, it was observed that the flavonoid and phenolic contents present in the fruit contributes to antioxidant activity based on the IC50 values.

Mode of Consumption: Mostly consumed Raw, Used to prepare Juice, Jam, Pickles Dried fruits etc

Fruit extractAntioxidant activityThe fruit extract of apricot depicts that the phenolic and flavonoid content present in the extract contributes to Antioxidant activity activities based on IC50 values.[6]
Kernal of the fruit.Anti-inflammatory activityThe fruit kernal contains Amygdalin, it inhibits TNF-alpha and IL-1beta which attributes to the transcriptional suppression of the mRNA expression of the pro-inflammatory cytokines.TNF-alpha and IL-1beta[2]
