Musa sanguinea Hook. f. was discovered in 1869 by Gustav Mann, in the Mahuni forests on the banks of the Booree Deling River in Upper Assam, India. The first published information regarding M. sanguinea emerged in the late 19th century, when J. D. Hooker described the species from a cultivated plant at Kew, with a colour sketch in Curtis’s Botanical Magazine 98: t. 5975

Mode of Consumption: It is consumed raw when the fruit is matured and ripe.
