Hippophae rhamnoides

Sea buckthorns belongs to the family Elaeagnaceae. The fruits are in the form of yellow-orange berries and these berries have been used food, traditonal medicine and skin tratment in Mangolia ,Russia and Ladakh region in India. The plant can subzero temperatures. The fruits of Sea bukthorn are rich in carotenoids and other secondary metabolites which are shown to have immunomodulatory activity. Quercetin one of the major compound in Sea buckthorn was reported to have antiproliferative activity by increasing cell apoptosis and inhibits cell cycle progression Increases FasL mRNA expression and p51, p21, and GADD45 signaling activities. Induces protein level, transcriptional activity, and nuclear translocation of Foxo3a in breast cancer cells.

Mode of Consumption: Mostly consumed Raw, Used to prepare Juice, Jam, Pickles Dried fruits etc
