Antidesma bunius
Antidesma bunius belongs to the Phyllantaceae family. The fruit is also called berries. Antidesma bunius comes from east and south Asia. This plant has several other names, such as bignay, bignai, bugnay, Chinese laurel, Queensland cherry, wild cherry, currant tree, and salamander tree. In Indonesia, this fruit is known as the Buni or Huni fruit. In some places, Buni fruit is usually consumed directly when ripe or processed into local foods such as Rujak. The acidic taste and the striking color become an attraction for consumption. Antidesma bunius has many benefits for human health. Almost all parts of Antidesma bunius have bioactive compounds that can be used as a source of medicine. Buni fruit contains antioxidant compounds, anticancer, anti-inflammation, anti-diabetic, and anti-hyperlipidemia and can also be used as an anti-parasitic agent. |
